NOOSH
FILLMORE STREET, SAN FRANCISCO
Chefs Laura and Sayat Ozyilmaz, whose impressive pedigrees include Saison, Mourad, Eleven Madison Park and Blue Hill at Stone Barns) were approached by John Litz (co-founder and partner of two Michelin star Lazy Bear) after he experienced their often sold-out pop-up Istanbul Modern. Just after securing their new space on Fillmore Street in San Francisco, the three partners approached Eden, whose studio was right upstairs from the restaurant and asked her to lead the vision and design process for their new brick and mortar location. Their shared aesthetic and approach for an elevated, comfortable and modern Mediterranean feel, that supported both, the fast-casual model and intimate fine dining and gathering for private events, made it a natural fit. Eden’s extensive travel and education throughout the Mediterranean region, as well as her close connection to the Fillmore neighborhood, even her Israeli-born husband, who cooked for The Progress, a Michelin starred restaurant just down the street, checked all the boxes for the Noosh owners.
With the finishes and furniture, we wanted to bring in the timeless natural qualities of Mediterranean design and blend it with relaxed California modern style to create a very welcoming, comfortable space that felt open and airy. We used sustainable and reclaimed teak and oak woods throughout, Murano style glass lighting, a custom abstract mural representing the abundance of the Mediterranean, cement tiles, Grecian inspired plaster arched banquette seating mixed with organic lounge seating areas. As Californians, we are fortunate to be so connected to nature and the design of Noosh really embodies that indoor/outdoor lifestyle. Like all new ventures, this project was a collaboration of many people and many contributions and it was an honor to be part of it.
